Looking for some affiliate advertising ideas that are both low-cost and effective? As more and more people join affiliate programs, it becomes more difficult to outsell the competition. Here are some tips to help.

One of the affiliate advertising methods I have found to be most effective is the construction of a theme-based web site. Different from a personal or portal site, this type of web site has a narrowly focused theme.

For example, to promote the services of travel document expediters, I built U.S. Passport Service Guide. The site offers free passport, visa and travel destination information. For those who need their travel documents in a hurry, I recommend Rush My Passport. As a participant in their LinkShare affiliate program, I earn 15% commissions every time someone contracts their expediting service.

Presently, the site earns me 40 times what I invest in it monthly. It is also in the top 1% of more than 58,100,00 web sites. I have to admit that such results were only possible due to the complete, web business building system of tools that I used.

Another effective affiliate advertising strategy is similar to the one above except that, instead of providing theme-based content on a web page, you do it in the form of an information product that people can download. I used this method to write a 20-page report titled, Travel More for Less: 4 Strategies for Seriously Slashing Travel Costs. In this report, I recommend 7 products and services of which I am an affiliate.

The last affiliate advertising method I want to mention is the use of Google AdWords and landing pages. A landing page is basically the web page where a person lands when he or she clicks on a link. Due to recent changes in Google's AdWords policy, it is much more difficult to send visitors directly to the affiliate merchant's web site. Enter landing pages.

I have several pay-per-click campaigns running that send people to a landing page about Fun Kid's Recipes. From there, visitors can either sign up for a series of creative recipes and insightful tips for cooking with kids. Each set of recipes highlights a related affiliate program. As you build your list, you can continue to offer informative articles and tips related the subject of interest and, occasionally, recommend a product or service of which you are an affiliate.
